Overview
When dealing with international legal transactions, cross-border corporate business or foreign property matters, a standard certification is rarely sufficient. You require an internationally recognized authority to witness your signature and formally authenticate your documents for official use overseas.
At VRT Lawyers, Partner and appointed Notary Public Daniella Ruggero provides comprehensive and streamlined notary public services designed to give you complete peace of mind.
Our notary services are available strictly by appointment only across our three Sydney locations - Sydney CBD, Mascot and Gladesville.

Preparation Checklist for Notary Public Appointment
To prepare for your scheduled appointment with our Notary Public, please ensure you:
- Bring Original Unsigned Documents: Do not sign any document prior to your consultation. Your notary public must physically witness your signature being executed in real-time to legally complete the notarial certificate.
- Satisfy the 100 Points ID NSW Requirement: You must present valid, government-issued photo identification to verify your identity. A current passport is highly preferred, supplemented by secondary identification such as an Australian driver's licence or Medicare card to satisfy mandatory anti-fraud standards.
- Provide Originating Jurisdiction Correspondence: Please bring all formal instructions, emails or guidelines provided by the overseas lawyer, court or corporate body requesting the notarisation. This allows us to ensure any specific foreign wording or structural format is perfectly replicated.
The Notarisation Process (Step-by-Step)
- Initial Telephone Intake & Verification: When you call our office to book your Notary Public appointment, our team will review your specific documents, identify your target foreign jurisdiction and pre-confirm your identification requirements.
- In-Person Appointment & Identity Audit: You will meet with our Notary Public, Daniella Ruggero, at one of our offices (Sydney CBD, Mascot or Gladesville). We will verify your primary 100-point identification documents against your unsigned paperwork.
- Witnessing and Execution: You will sign the official documentation in the physical presence of the Notary. The Notary will then affix their signature, unique notarial seal and official stamp to the paperwork or attached Notarial Certificate.
- DFAT Lodgement Assistance (Optional): If your destination country requires an Apostille or formal Authentication, we can assist in coordinating the direct lodgement of your notarised files with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Need Your Documents Notarised?
FAQs
Document notarisation is the official process where a legally commissioned Notary Public attests to the authenticity of a document, a signature or a statutory event so it can be recognized by foreign governments, courts and authorities. If your paperwork originates in Australia but is ultimately destined for use outside our borders, local Justices of the Peace (JPs) do not possess the necessary international authority to certify it.
Failing to secure a correct notarial seal can result in your international transactions, property deeds or corporate registrations being rejected by overseas agencies. Our Notary Public, Daniella Ruggero, handles this technical process seamlessly, ensuring that your documents are legally sound, fully compliant and structured for swift acceptance abroad.
In New South Wales, a Notary Public (also known as a Public Notary or just Notary) is a senior lawyer appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of NSW under the Public Notaries Act 1997 (NSW). Unlike general legal practitioners whose administrative acts are limited to domestic validity, a Notary's commission grants them unique global statutory powers recognized under international law.
Furthermore, many foreign jurisdictions require an additional layer of verification known as an Apostille or Authentication certificate. This is governed internationally by the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. Our office operates in direct alignment with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to ensure that our notarial seals are seamlessly registered and authenticated for international compliance.
A Justice of the Peace (JP) is a volunteer authorized to witness standard statutory declarations and certify copies of documents strictly for domestic use within Australia. A Notary Public is a highly experienced senior lawyer whose official seal and signature are legally recognized by international courts, embassies and foreign governments worldwide.
Yes, we are legally permitted to notarise foreign language documents. However, depending on the specific legal requirements of the destination country, we may require a certified English translation to be supplied alongside the document before certification can proceed. Please tell our staff if your documents are written in a foreign language when booking your appointment.
For most standard personal matters, such as certifying a passport copy or witnessing a single Power of Attorney signature, the notarisation can be completed live during your scheduled appointment. Complex corporate filings or matters requiring DFAT Apostille coordination will require a longer processing window, which our team will map out for you.
